I have an unusual taste and I never thought I’d be writing a blog post on music, but here I am. It’s a bit of trip down memory lane and I’m a sucker for nostalgia.
The idea for this blog post came from a car journey; I say journey, it was about half an hour. In this half an hour we listened to a cheesy 90’s pop playlist, which included: Steal My Sunshine (Len), Keep on Movin’ (Five) and Mmmbop (Hanson).
It was amazing. I was singing and I really can’t sing.
90’s Pop music was just fun, it made us smile
Now I know nostalgia is a hell of a thing, but there is no getting away from the fact that 90’s Pop music was happy, cheesy, fun. Yes of course there were deeper Pop songs, ones that were written with meaning behind the lyrics. But there was this who sub-genre of Pop whose lyrics were written just to make us feel good.
This could easily be extended back to the 80’s, the 70’s and so on. But born in ’83, this was the Pop music I grew up with and it has a special place for me.
It was pop music as it should be.
Sadly I cannot help but feel Pop music in the traditional sense is a dying genre. I get musical tastes changes with time and things move on. But it would be such a shame to lose a genre that has made so many people happy, feel good and just want to have fun from the simple act of listening to a song.
